Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Per the EPA, “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.”

What is the IPM Program?

The IPM Program is a series of 6-9 on-site visits from a national and state certified arborist to:

(a) monitor and evaluate trees and shrubs under 25 feet tall for pests and diseases.

(b) make recommendations to homeowners and property managers on preventive techniques to reduce stressors such as moisture management and soil fertility recommendations.

(c) execute treatments as needed:

  • spot sprays for insects (adelgid, aphids, black vine weevil, borers, Japanese beetle, lacebug, leafminer, mites, psyllid, sawfly, scale, spongy moth, white pine weevil, winter moth)
  • spot fungicides for diseases (anthracnose, fire blight, leaf blight, mildew, needle cast, rust, scab, tip blight)
  • spot soil injections
  • visual root crown inspections

Preference is given to organic options whenever possible. Fully organic programs are also available upon request.

Note, the IMP Program does not include fertilizers, large scale soil injections, anti-desiccant treatments, poison ivy treatments, pruning, or treatments on trees over 25 feet tall which are available via al le carte.
